September is the month to draw attention to two causes close to my heart.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. As a therapist and clinical supervisor, of course, I work to prevent suicide every month of the year.
My Grandfather committed suicide. My cousin committed suicide. And a very dear client committed suicide. They were all deeply loved. And they all struggled with mental health and substance abuse problems. And their deaths were all preventable. Don’t be afraid to talk about suicide. It can make a difference!
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. I have two friends with a child who has/had leukemia. It was truly shocking when both of these little ones were diagnosed. Perhaps even more so because both children are part of our little international adoption community. Childhood cancer research and treatment is terribly underfunded. Please support it!
